On International Museum Day (18 May 2026), Cascais opens its municipal museums free of charge with extended hours. At the Museu do Mar Rei D. Carlos — Câmara Municipal de Cascais's small maritime museum dedicated to King Carlos I (a passionate oceanographer) and Cascais's seafaring and fishing heritage — visitors can watch a live restoration session of a cannon recovered from the sea (18 and 20 May), alongside ICOM's 2026 theme "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing" programming across the wider
