Cal Sailing Club is a volunteer-run sailing and windsurfing cooperative at the Berkeley Marina, and several times a year it opens its doors and gives the public free sailboat rides on San Francisco Bay. The Open House on Sunday 4 October 2026 is the last of the club's 2026 season. The format is simple: show up at the clubhouse at 124 University Avenue, sign up at the table between 1:00 and 2:30 pm, and wait your turn for a ride of around half an hour, first come, first served, in keelboats and dinghies skippered by club members. Children are welcome from age five if accompanied by an adult. There is no charge and no obligation, though the club is honest that it hopes some riders become members. Berkeley's afternoon sea breeze is reliable, so dress warmer than you think you need to. Heavy rain or too much wind can cancel the day.
