Charter Yachts Australia has offered skipper-yourself bareboat charters in the Whitsundays since 1992. The company operates from Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach and can also deliver boats to Hamilton Island. Its fleet numbers more than 20 vessels, from sailing and power catamarans of 32 to 48 feet, among them Australian-built Seawind designs, to Beneteau and Hunter monohulls that include a Beneteau 50. No licence is required; charterers need basic boat handling experience and receive a thorough briefing before departure. John and Annie have been the owner-operators since May 2000, and in 2007 the business became the first charter company in Australia to gain Eco Tourism Certification.
