Seychelles Sailing Association

Location: Mahe, Mahe, Seychelles

The Seychelles' national sailing body, based at Roche Caiman just outside Victoria on Mahe's east coast, where it operates today as the Seychelles Yachting Association. Its heart is youth sailing: the programme grew out of the Sail Training Scheme, founded in 1977 with a handful of Mirror dinghies, and Optimists have been the mainstay since 1987. Training moved from the old Yacht Club Basin to the bay off Roche Caiman in 2005 and has put more than 1,500 young Seychellois on the water, including every Olympic sailor the country sent between 1996 and 2016. Racing and training today centre on Optimist dinghies and windsurfing.
