Toronto Island Sailing Club

Location: Toronto, Canada

Toronto Island Sailing Club is a member-run nonprofit dinghy club on the Toronto Islands, a short ferry ride from the downtown core. It began in 1965 as a program of the North Toronto YMCA and first operated out of the former Algonquin Island schoolhouse. When the YMCA restructured in 1970 the club incorporated on its own under a provincial non-profit charter as North Toronto Sailing Club and later took its current name. It describes itself as the oldest community co-op dinghy sailing club in Ontario. The club fleet includes Albacores, Lasers and Hobie catamarans, and it teaches Sail Canada CANSail 1/2 and 3/4 courses. Summer programming includes Friday night races, Harbour Masters interclub competition and regattas, plus social sailing led by experienced members.
