Tamil Nadu Sailing Association
Location: Chennai, India
The Tamil Nadu Sailing Association was formed in 2002 by a group of Chennai sailors who wanted to make the sport affordable and open to all. The not-for-profit association trains children and adults in dinghy classes such as the Optimist and ILCA, runs regattas, and sends squads to national and international events. Its best-known member is Nethra Kumanan, the first Indian woman to sail at the Olympic Games, who competed at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 in the Laser Radial and ILCA 6. The association has signed agreements with the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and the Indian Coast Guard to develop sailing and water sports in the state. Its registered office is in Royapuram, Chennai.
