National Sailing School Bhopal

The National Sailing School opened on Bhopal's Upper Lake on 11 August 2006 as India's first national sailing school, a joint project of the Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department, the Indian Navy and the Yachting Association of India. It trains children and young people aged 8 to 21 in Optimist, 420 and Laser dinghies, with YAI-certified courses of 12 days, 50 days and one year. The school made dinghy sailing accessible beyond armed forces and club circles. The same lake, known as Bhojtal, gained an Indian Navy sailing node in May 2026, inaugurated by the Chief of Naval Staff. The school is separate from the state's elite water sports academy, which trains on the same lake.
