Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre (Indian Naval Academy)

The Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre is the sailing and boat training facility of the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kannur district, Kerala. Located on the Kavvayi backwaters, it is described by the Navy as India's largest watermanship training facility and is named after the Kunjali Marakkars, 16th century naval commanders of the Malabar coast. Officer cadets receive theoretical and practical instruction in rigging and sailing dinghies, rowing and powerboat handling, with a fleet of over 200 boats of various types. Watermanship Sail Training at the academy is certified by the Yachting Association of India. The academy hosted the Indian Navy Sailing Championship in 2022. This is a military training establishment and is not open to the public.
