Madhya Pradesh Sailing Academy

The Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy of Excellence is the state government's high performance academy for sailing, rowing, kayaking, canoeing and canoe slalom, run by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare. Established in January 2007, it trains on Bhopal's Upper Lake and Lower Lake and has a hostel, fitness centre, physio room and practice pool, with eight coaches across disciplines. The academy has produced much of India's recent youth sailing success; its athletes include Harshita Tomar, Neha Thakur and Ritika Dangi, and its record lists 28 international and 69 national medals. Seventeen of the Indian Navy Sailing Team's 34 members are from Madhya Pradesh, a talent pipeline this academy helped build.
