Lough Derg Yacht Club
Location: Dromineer, Ireland
Lough Derg Yacht Club was founded in 1835 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world. It sits at Dromineer on the Tipperary shore of Lough Derg, the largest lake on the River Shannon, about ten kilometres from Nenagh. The club runs Irish Sailing junior courses each summer, and these can lead on to instructor qualifications. Racing centres on the Shannon One Design, an 18-foot dinghy unique to Loughs Derg and Ree, alongside other dinghy classes and adult training. The club hosts an annual regatta on Dromineer Bay as well as regional and national championships, and club racing continues through the season.
