Jachthaven Bommen Berend

Location: Rijksweg 94, Laag Keppel, Netherlands

Jachthaven Bommen Berend lies on the Oude IJssel at Laag Keppel in the Achterhoek, beside an old lock at Rijksweg 94. The harbour has 52 fixed berths and 5 visitor berths for boats up to about 15 metres long and 4.5 metres wide, with electricity on the jetty, a water point, wifi and a sanitary building. The same family business rents sloops. The name recalls Bernhard van Galen, the bishop of Munster who took nearby Keppel Castle in 1665 and earned the nickname Bommen Berend for his fondness for gunpowder. Downstream the Oude IJssel reaches Doesburg and the river IJssel; upstream it runs to Doetinchem.
