Gemeentehaven Monnickendam

Location: Havenstraat 1, Monnickendam, Netherlands

The gemeentehaven of Monnickendam lets crews moor directly against the old town, one of the cheapest ways to visit this former Zuiderzee port on the Gouwzee. Sources put capacity at 60 to 80 berths, split between an inner harbour and stretches of quay wall. Deeper-draught yachts stay on the quays before the Lange Brug drawbridge; beyond it the water shoals and only flat-bottomed barges, small motorboats and dinghies can pass, fitting for a town with a strong botter and brown-fleet tradition. The harbour office has showers and toilets. Marina Monnickendam and Jachthaven Waterland offer fuller facilities nearby, but neither puts you closer to the smoked eel stalls and the Speeltoren carillon.
