The municipal harbour of Volendam puts visiting boats right against the famous dike-top village front on the Markermeer, among the eel smokehouses and fish stalls that draw coach parties all summer. The gemeente Edam-Volendam runs two guest harbours, here and in neighbouring Edam, and the Volendam basin flies the Blue Flag for cleanliness and safety. Guest berths come with showers, electricity, water points and wifi, and the harbour office handles allocation on arrival. The old fishing port still hosts traditional botters alongside modern yachts, and Amsterdam, Marken and Hoorn all lie within easy sailing distance across the Markermeer.
