Atakoy Marina

Location: Istanbul, Turkey

Opened in 1989 as Turkey's first privately run marina, Atakoy Marina sits on the Sea of Marmara in Istanbul's Bakirkoy district, on the European shore west of the old city. It has berths for around 700 boats plus a hundred more ashore, including mega-yacht berths for vessels of 25 to 100 metres. Facilities run deep: a 63-tonne travel lift and technical services, fuel, 24/7 security and mooring assistance on VHF 73, showers, laundry, a market, restaurants, a pool and a sports centre. The marina has held TYHA's 5 Gold Anchors since opening and flies the Blue Flag, and makes a natural base for cruising toward the Bosphorus and the Black Sea.
