SeaTrek Sailing Adventures (Ombak Putih)
Location: Pura Petali, Penebel, 82152, Indonesia, Bali (base), Indonesia
A Dutch-founded but fully Indonesian-crewed and Indonesian-flagged phinisi operation with 25+ years sailing the UNESCO-recognised pinisi tradition through the remotest corners of the Banda Sea and Spice Islands
For 25 years, SeaTrek has done something unusual in the charter world: it built an Indonesian company, with an Indonesian flag, an entirely Indonesian crew, and an entirely Indonesian perspective on a country most charter operators merely cross. The Ombak Putih — White Wave — is a traditional phinisi with vivid blue sails, hand-built in South Sulawesi's Tana Beru, a village where over 70% of residents either build or sail boats using techniques memorised across generations, inscribed by UNESCO in 2017 as Intangible Cultural Heritage. When you sail east from Bali toward the Banda Sea, you are tracing the exact route that made the Age of Exploration inevitable: these were the islands that produced nutmeg, cloves and mace, spices so precious that European powers fought continental wars to control them. SeaTrek sails you there not as a spectator but as a participant in an unbroken maritime lineage.
