There is a difference between a luxury dhow charter and one run by the families who have actually been sailing these waters for generations. Lamu Dhow Adventures is the latter: a community-operated, locally run sailing experience where the knowledge of monsoon navigation, traditional fishing methods and Swahili coastal cuisine belongs to the crew by birthright. The Lamu Archipelago is the oldest continuously inhabited town in Kenya, and the dhow culture that sustains it is older still — the same lateen sails, the same seasonal wind logic, the same inter-island routes that the Arab-African-Indian trade civilisation built over a thousand years.
